Le Baccanti supports cultural awareness from Italy to NYC

Le Baccanti increasingly ties its activities to initiatives of cultural and social value, sensitive to the need to support the Italian artistic heritage and the right to live in dignity for every citizen.

In November 2012 Le Baccanti planned an event side by side with the RF Kennedy Foundation for women victims of violence and in support of the Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino.

Next to Le Baccanti were prominent wine makers like Arnaldo Caprai, Planeta and Badia di Morrona. These wine makers donated wine to the Gala dinner for 200 people.

The Gala Dinner
Thanksgiving weekend, the RFKennedy Foundation organized a series of events throughout Tuscany.

In the new Opera House in Florence, guests were able to attend the dress rehearsal of Turandot the Maggio Musicale Orchestra conducted by Maestro Zubin Mehta.
For more generous supporters, there was the Gala dinner and charity auction held in the theater.
25 lots were up for bit to raise funds, among which included exclusive photograph of Harry Benson, the baton of Zubin Mehta, opera tickets and many others.

Kerry Kennedy, RFK Foundation President and Francesca Colombo, curator and artistic director of the teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino led the evening in grace.
But the biggest character of the evening was definitely the Maestro Zubin Mehta, not only because of his extraordinary talent, but also his charisma, humor and sympathy in all of his speeches during dinner increased the value of the auction!

A special thanks is to Aminatou Haidar, who risks his life to defend civil and political rights in Western Sahara, and to Marina Pisklakova, President of ANNA for prevention of domestic violence against women.

Le Baccanti with The Guild of The Dome Florence

Le Baccanti with The Guild of The Dome Florence
In 1401 the Calimala held a contest among Florentine artists to find who could create one of the doors of the baptistery in Florence (now North Gate).
In 2012, the Guild of the Dome was similar in style as now corporations hold competitions which aim to support and protect the Florentine artistic heritage.

Lorenzo Ghiberti then not only won the contest by creating the panel now in the Bargello, but the door that made the North Gate is considered the door of paradise.

2012 might be dubbed the year of the baptistery and Ghiberti. In a very short time indeed, attention was given to 2 masterpieces from this Florentine artist. The door of the baptistery was restored and made visible to the public after more than 20 years at the Museo dell'Opera del Duomo.

Israel, United States, Italy, Taiwan, are the representing nations of the first 6 benefactors and founders of the Association that gave way to the restoration of the North Gate of the Baptistery. Each member acquires the right to eternal public recognition as a donor for 150,000 euros of funds necessary to restore a panel chosen by them. They directed the replication that will replace the original port.

Le Baccanti Tours is proud to have participated in the project and supported the first round of events that were made for this valuable cultural heritage initiative.

Guests came from institutions, social and religious organizations worldwide. Various figures were given private tours in Florence's most exclusive locations such as restoration laboratories of the Opificio delle Pietre Dure, restoration site of Leonardo da Vinci's "the adoration of the Magi", private visits in the baptistery of the Crucifix of Donatello, Michelangelo and Brunelleschi, lunch in the Museum dell'Opera del Duomo and dinner at the Museo Bardini.

The wineries that now have joined the initiative and donated their wines for our events were: Arnaldo Caprai, Azienda Agricola Stony and Planeta
